I don't know why you think that Risto is going to get $6m AAV, given that Rielly is better and was signed for $5m AAV...

Actually, the best comparable would be Morgan Rielly but Garth could never admit Rielly is every bit the two way player than his beloved Risto. Barrie is older, more of a scorer and can't check his coat. Jones doesn't have the numbers.

Anaheim cap, simple, dump either Bieksa or Stoner to Carolina with a prospect, or dump either of them to the minors. Why would they trade Fowler and keep the former has beens.

Why would Zona take on another bad contract? They'll be paying what Pronger, Datsyuk and Bolland for not even playing.

Jones is already better then Reilly as is Ristolainen. It's a shame that a Laugh fan can't admit that. Reilly is probably slightly better on the D side then Risto but other then that Risto all the way. Jones is just better then Reilly in both aspects. Don't get me wrong Reilly is good but he is more of a Vatanen then Ristolainen IMO.

Actually, Rielly has 0.390 PPG, Jones has 0.345 PPG and Ristoleinen has 0.335 PPG. Jones and Rielly have very similar primary production (goals and first assists), and Ristoleinen is behind them both in that regard. Remember also that Rielly played relatively limited PP time last year, as Babcock was getting him more used to playing the defensive side of the game. Also bear in mind that Ristoleinen got about 50% of his points with the man advantage, while Rielly got only about 20% of his on the man advantage. If you then look at relative possession, Jones is the best, with Rielly a close second and Ristoleinen a distant third.

I don't think that anybody would dispute that Jones is the best out of the three, but I don't see anything to suggest that Ristoleinen is better than Rielly.

risto 65pts in 194 games.
rielly 92 pts in 236 games.

possession: Reilly
ES pts: Rielly
PP pts: Risto

Rielly is both better offensively and defensively. playing 2nd unit pp time for 2/3 of the year hurt his totals, yet he still ended up with 36 pts

hilarious how your homer blogger cant even use reilly as a comparable because he hates the leafs that much. the two players are 7 months apart and rielly just signed a team friendly 6 year 30 mil deal. 26 year old dekeyser though? lol
pathetic

Cap hit doesn't equate actual money in this case.....Cap hit for those 3= $18M, actual salary $1.675M

Pronger’s final year salary was $575,000 and the Coyotes will not pay Datsyuk anything. A league source told Today’s Slapshot that Bolland would head to long-term injured reserve after training camp this fall. When he does, the Coyotes will only be responsible for 20 percent of his annual salary ($3.3 million over three years; $1.1 million per year) while insurance picks up the rest.

According to generalfanager.com and capfriendly.com, the Coyotes current cap hit sits around $70.65 million, but without those three contracts, the Coyotes wouldn’t be above the NHL’s salary cap floor of $54 million.

This.

Add in the fact that Rielly clearly has better "guns" and tattoos and Rielly>Risto is a complete no-brainer.

Grath keeps talking about $6M … just to talk about what a great bargain signing risto will be at less than that.

I really can’t see risto at more than jones. My guess is murray will probably give him $5.2M.

personally, I’m not sure why he should be looking for more than the $5M reilly got.

The difference between the Leafs and Sabres is Reilly had Phaneuf and Gardiner to compare salaries to. I mean you could argue that they were both better or close to the same level as Reilly (for now), which could be a good way to expect a player to take a lower salary. Unfortunately, Risto was the Sabres best defender by a mile, so he expects to get paid like one.

Idk when Reilly signed his extension and if it was when Phaneuf was still on the team...and I'm not necessarily saying this is the reason for both Risto and Reilly's contracts, just that maybe it's something that affects negotiations.

Thoughts?

Phanuef’s contract was irrelevant when comparing to reilly. Ufa vs. rfa.

Jones/rielly/risto all put up similar production at similar ages.

Not that I care too much, but I’d prefer to see you guys give him +$6M.

Don't get me wrong I'm hoping he signs in the Reilly territory.

The REAL question that we are all ducking here is this:

Whos better, Morgan Rielly or Bobby Orr?
